This upcoming book takes readers on a journey through Springfield’s highs\, when it was known as “Lunch Bucket City” and was the nation’s top lumber producer\, and its lows\, when fires and floods devastated Springfield’s underserved communities and Main Street declined in the 1970s. In between\, you’ll discover Springfield’s forgotten lore\, from motorcycle races and gliders on local buttes to the concealed location of the freshwater spring that gave Springfield its name. Using hundreds of photographs\, many never-before published\, along with archived letters\, newspaper clippings\, and advertising\, readers will experience the story of Springfield as it has never been told before.\nThe three authors will cover an assortment of topics from the book and take viewers behind the scenes into their journey through the creation of this exciting new work\, followed by questions from the audience.\nAbout the authors: Megan England is a local Siletz tribal member who specializes in historical research and writing\, Jenna Fribley is a Springfield-based architect who focuses on historic downtown core revitalization\, and Madeline McGraw is an historian and Curator of the Springfield History Museum.\nJoin us for this free History Night celebrating local history!
